"Tobyan..." Minkayi's breath billowed out into the cold air. She whispered softly; "Don't move..." Tobyan's legs buckled under him, and he looked as if he were about to turn and run. "Don't run!" she murmured through gritted teeth.
Tobyan whimpered, suddenly turning and fleeing. He ran through the undergrwoth, racing past Talerikan and Oketara, who were sitting and chatting. "H-hey! What's the big idea?" Oketara ducked as Tobyan flew over her head, landing on the ground with a light thud before racing off in the other direction.
Minkayi stood, eyes filled with fear as the bear turned to face her. Oketara and Talerikan rushed through the brush, stopping to stand beside Minkayi. "Run!" Minkayi yelled, turning to run after Tobyan. Oketara and Talerikan followed, the bear right on their heels.
A sudden snap like thunder split through the air, and the bear gave a sudden bellow of pain. Oketara turned around, her blue eyes beginning to glow red as she saw the shape she feared most.
The beast that had killed her mother. That poacher would pay the price.
As the human neared the bear, Oketara let out a meow that split into a roar. Her eyes blazed like fire, and markings slashed her body like scars as she leaped at the hunter. It dropped it's lightning-rod and yelled in it's own language. Oketara felt her claws sink into the human's clothes, and she unsheathed her claws even further.
As she roared over her prey, the human raised its hand over its face, yelling in terror. She raised a paw to give the final blow, but when she saw the fear in the human's eyes, her mind flashed back to the day her mother died.
"Mother!" Oketara's eyes were cliuded with fear as her mother stood over her, snarling and growling at the human.
"Run." Those were her mother's words before the human raised the lightningrod and pulled the tigger. The next thing Oketara knew, her mother was laying on the ground, and the hunter was nowhere to be seen.
"Mom!" the she-cub yelled, tears falling down her face. She ran over to her mother, seeing that the lightningrod had struck her amulet from Siberia. She took the amulet and tucked it under her paw, laying against her mother's side and talking to her. Then the wolves came.
She looked into the human's eyes and thundered, "I will spare you. But hear me clearly- never return. Never hunt any of us again, and never return." She stepped off of the human and walked backwards into the bushes, stopping to snap the lightningrod in half. She stepped backwards into the bushes, and only her glowing red eyes remained. Then they closed and she was gone.
The human stood up, grabbing his lightningrod and fleeing to his den.
"Oketara, what you did was-" Talerikan stopped, standing speechless staring at the snow leopard letting her mother's murderer escape. "-amazing." Oketara only nodded, slowly standing up and walking off into the bushes.
Minkayi stopped, staring at the snow leopard. "Oketara, look how big you are!"
Oketara looked at her long, adult body and let out a joyous screech of surprise. "How did that happen!?"
Talerikan looked at Tobyan, and he returned her gaze. They both murmured, "God."
Minkayi nodded her head slowly. Oketara questioned, "Who is that?"
Minkayi smiled. "Trust me, you will know him when you see him, He is the one who gave you your powers. Believe in him, and you will live forever."
Oketara nodded. "I believe."
